What is NSFAS?

Who is Eligible for NSFAS Bursaries?

To apply for an NSFAS bursary, you must meet the following criteria:

  • South African Citizenship
  • Household Income: Must not exceed R350,000 per year
  • If you are a student with a disability, your household income must not exceed R600,000 per year.
  • Academic Qualifications: You must have passed Grade 9 and be registered or intend to register at a public university or TVET college for the 2025 academic year.

Follow these steps to ensure a successful application:

  1. Create a MyNSFAS Account: Visit the NSFAS portal at https://my.nsfas.org.za/ and register for a MyNSFAS account. You will need to provide your ID number, email address, and phone number.
  2. Log In and Start Your Application: Once your account is created, log in and fill out the application form. Ensure that all required fields are completed accurately.
  3. Submit Supporting Documents: You will need to upload the following documents:
    • Certified copy of your ID
    • Parent or guardian’s certified ID copies (if applicable)
    • Proof of income or affidavit (for parents/guardians or yourself if unemployed)
    • Disability certificate (if applicable)
    • Recent academic results
  4. Submit Your Application: Review your application carefully before submitting. Once submitted, you can track the status of your application on the NSFAS portal.

NSFAS bursaries cover a wide range of study-related expenses, including:
