Childline South Africa, in partnership with the National Association of Child Care Workers (NACCW), is offering exciting internship opportunities for Child & Youth Care Workers (CYCWs) across various regions. This 12-month internship program aims to provide valuable work experience to qualified CYCWs in a variety of settings, including direct community outreach, counseling, and intervention services.
About the Internship:
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of child and youth care work. As part of the program, you will be deployed to different regions within South Africa, working with vulnerable children and youth while addressing issues such as Gender-Based Violence (GBV), abuse, and psycho-social challenges.
The internship is offered in the following locations:

- Bizana, Eastern Cape (Ref Int:04/25)

- Matatiele, Eastern Cape (Ref Int:07/25)
- Buffalo City Metro, Eastern Cape (Ref Int:08/25)
- Capricorn, Limpopo (Ref Int:09/25)
- Ehlanzeni, Mpumalanga (Ref Int:10/25)
- Gert Sibande, Mpumalanga (Ref Int:11/25)
- Nkangala, Mpumalanga (Ref Int:12/25)
Key Responsibilities:
As a Child & Youth Care Worker Intern, you will be responsible for;-
- Assessment and Counseling: Identifying and addressing psycho-social issues among children through counseling and appropriate interventions.
- First Responder: Providing immediate assistance to victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
- Containment Services: Offering services to children and adults who have experienced abuse.
- Awareness Campaigns: Conducting dialogues and raising awareness on GBV issues within communities.
- Reporting: Compiling and submitting monthly reports on all activities and interventions. Ensure accuracy and integrity in the data presented.
- Planning and Coordination: Developing weekly and monthly plans, submitting weekly timesheets, and reporting in a timely manner.
Minimum Requirements:
To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria;-
- Age: Must be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Qualification: Must be a qualified Child & Youth Care Worker with a minimum of Level 4 qualification.
- Registration: Must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
- Employment Status: Must be currently unemployed.
- Previous Funding: Candidates must not have benefitted from any previous HWSETA funded programs, grants, or learnerships.
- Computer Literacy: Must be proficient in basic computer skills.
- Language Proficiency: Must be able to speak and understand the language(s) used in the area of deployment.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is an added advantage.
