About the Job:
The CSIR has an internship opportunity for Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Implementation in the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) portfolio. The purpose of this internship is to provide graduates with an opportunity to gain practical work experience through performing Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Implementation support (administrative and operational) functions. The position is based in Durban Offices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support monthly SHE managementwalkabouts (MBWAs) for alldivisional/support portfolio S16.2appointees.
- Follow up on all MBWA findings thatwere recorded, reported, andadequately address to meet SHErequirements.
- Follow up on all SHE incidents or non-conformity thatoccurred.
- Follow up on all Corrective ActionRequests (CAR) and ensure that allCARs are timeously raised, trackedand managed adequately.
- Track and participate in all SHE risksassessments to ensure they arecompleted, signed off and updated.
- Participate in both internal and external SHEQ audits.
- Participate in division/support portfolio emergencyevacuation drills.
- Attend and keep records of all related SHEcommittee meetings.
- Participate in the review of all divisional / portfolioSHE procedures and processes.
- Provide support to all SHERepresentatives, Impact AreaManagers/ Research Group Leadersand other SHE role players with SHEinspections, procurement of SHEmaterials, keeping track of SHE risksassessments, training records andequipment/machinery registers.
- Ensure that the SHE documentedinformation is maintained inaccordance with SHEQ Document Management Procedure.
- Assist with preparation andpresentation of annual SHE trainingcalendar for the division / support portfolio.
- Arrange and co-ordinate training ofdivision/support portfolio SHEappointees and all SHE role players.
- Participate in SHE related incidentinvestigations and provide inputs or submit reports if required.
- Attend to all service requests relating to SHE function in the division/ support portfolio and provide efficient and effective response.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A three year National Diploma or equivalent in one of the SHE fields.
- Good communication skills.
- Knowledge of SHE Management Systems.
- Knowledge of SHE regulatory framework e.g. OHS Act, NEMA etc., is an advantage.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong administrative and report writing skills.
- Computer literacy.
- All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
