Moonstone Compliance and Risk Management invites unemployed graduates, to apply for a 12-month internship programme, partially funded by the Insurance Seta (INSETA).
The internship forms part of the company’s skills development initiatives, intended to provide an opportunity for new entrants in the labour market to gain work experience, as well as to capitalise on the discretionary grant funding made available by INSETA.
The intention of the internship is to provide an ambitious and dynamic graduate with the opportunity to gain holistic work experience, professional mentorship and benefit from a structured training programme to gain exposure to a professional services and regulatory work environment.
Role Description
The successful applicant will work alongside experienced National Credit Act (NCA) Compliance Officers, providing outsourced compliance and risk management services to clients in the credit and financial services industry.
The applicant will support the NCA team and its compliance officers in executing their statutory duties associated to mitigating the risk of non-compliance with legislation and regulations.
This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain working experience in the compliance and legal aspects associated with the adherence to the NCA.
Job Specification
- Conduct research on various aspects of the National Credit Act: relevant case laws, statutes, regulations, and legal articles when required.
- Assist with drafting memorandums and legal opinions when required.
- Stay informed on applicable legislation, industry developments and internal procedures.
- Assist with developing, implementing, and maintaining risk and compliance documents, policies, and procedures.
- Perform administrative support functions that monitor compliance with regulations.
- Perform administrative support functions related to registrations with the National Credit Regulator.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders when required.
- Assist with record-keeping and other administrative functions within the team.
Minimum Requirements
- South African citizenship by birth
- No participation on any INSETA funded programme in the last 12 months
- Completed 4 Year degree or equivalent that has been recognised by the FSCA for Compliance Officers in the following two relevant fields of study;-
- Law
- Commerce
- At least 1-2 years’ experience in a legal, compliance or financial environment.
- Advantageous: Working knowledge of the National Credit Act (NCA), National Credit Regulator (NCR), or credit industry.
- Advantageous: Admitted attorney / Completed articles
- High degree of digital and computer literacy: Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Excellent English / Afrikaans written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have a positive outlook, be presentable and self-motivated.
Skills and Competencies
Ability to interpret and apply legislation, research, writing, and analytical skills, detail orientated, ability to work independently, driven, proactive, function well under pressure, time management skills, high ethical standards and the ability to work to strict deadlines.
