Hollard Group Risk (HGR) is a specialist group risk underwriter and focuses on the provision of group covers in South Africa. The risk and actuarial team provide technical support to the business in terms of pricing and product design, client engagement and risk management.
We are looking to appoint a Junior Actuarial Analyst, based in Cape Town to ensure ongoing servicing of our internal and external clients and achieve the strategic objectives of our business.
Key Outputs:
The role is multi-disciplinary with the following key deliverables;-
- Knowledge of group risk pricing and product features
- Review of theoretical pricing basis for all group risk products
- Review of pricing terms and conditions from risk management viewpoint
- Ownership of optimal reinsurance arrangements and management of relationships
- Research on mortality and morbidity trends and the impact on group risk
- Technical pricing support to the rest of the business, e.g. quotes and business development teams
- Implementing strategic projects for the risk management team
- Assist with technical pricing and product queries from the business
- Development and maintenance of pricing models and liaising with other areas (e.g. IT) to achieve accuracy and efficiency in the pricing tools
- Assist with pricing of non-standard and technical schemes
- Collaborate with Valuations and reporting team on projects, reserve calculations and basis reviews.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Actuarial)
- Good progress with exams (5-8 CT’s)
- Some Actuarial Experience
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience in Life insurance pricing, preferably in Group risk, would be advantageous
- Knowledge of statistical modelling and data manipulation techniques
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a self-starter
- Proficient in Excel and programming languages such as SQL and R
- Knowledge of data visualization tools, e.g. PowerBI
- A self-managed individual
- Attention to accuracy and detailAbility to use initiative, prioritise and make decisions
- Ability to engage and build relationships with stakeholders
- Good communication skills (written and verbal) and inter-personal skills
