The Gauteng Film Commission is a non-profit company (NPC) entity within the Gauteng Provincial Government under the leadership of the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR), which is mandated with the development, promotion, and coordination of the film and television production industry in Gauteng. In addition, the Gauteng Film Commission is responsible for positioning the province as a world-class destination for filmmaking as well as attracting local and international investments in the film and television industry. The GFC invites applications from dynamic and suitably qualified graduates for its Graduate Internship Programme. This programme provides an opportunity for recent graduates to gain valuable film and television production industry experience in various sub-fields.
Programme Details
- Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend within the GFC budget aligned with market and industry rates.
- Interns will be placed at partnering host companies within the film and television production industry in Gauteng to acquire hands-on experience relevant to their field of study.
- Duration: Six (6) Months

General Office Administration
Qualifications: 3 Year National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Levels: 6 and 7) in any of the following fields of study;-
- Business Administration,
- Business Management,
- Human Resource Management,
- Public Management,
BCom Finance, - Cost Management Accounting,
- Auditing,
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Projects and Permits Administration
Qualifications: 3 Year National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Levels: 6 and 7) in any of the following fields of study;-
- Project Management,
- Monitoring and Evaluation,
- Business Administration,
- Visual Arts,
- Film and TV Production,
- Motion Picture,
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Marketing and Communications
Qualifications: 3 Year National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Levels: 6 and 7) in any of the following fields of study;-
- Marketing and Communications,
- Public Relations,
- Graphic Design,
- Visual Arts,
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Film and TV Production
Qualifications: 3 Year National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Levels: 6 and 7) in any of the following fields of study;-
- Film Production, Majoring in Film Producing, and entailing modules in Scriptwriting, Editing, and/or Cinematography.
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Script Writing and Management
Qualifications: 3 Year National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Levels: 6 and 7) in any of the following fields of study;-
- Film or Media related studies/
- BA Degree in Film Production, Majoring in Module(s): Script Writing, Creative Writing specialisation and/or Media Writing.
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Film and TV Production Directing
Qualifications: 3 Year National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Levels: 6 and 7) in any of the following fields of study;-
- Film Production or Cinema Studies, Majoring in Module(s): Arts Management and/or Applied Film and Television Studies.
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Camera Operation
Qualifications: 3 Year National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Levels: 6 and 7) in any of the following fields of study;-
- Film Production, Majoring in Module(s): Studies in Story Structure, Lighting, Camera and/or Editing.
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Technical Work (Gaffer, Best Boy)
Qualifications: 3 Year National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Levels: 6 and 7) in any of the following fields of study;-
- Film/ Media Studies and/or
- BA Degree in Film Production, Majoring in Module(s): Camera operation and Lighting.
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Virtual Work/Operations (Make-up, Wardrobe, Production set design)
Qualifications: 3 Year National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Levels: 6 and 7) in any of the following fields of study;-
- Film/Media Studies and/or
- BA Degree in Film Production
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Requirements:
- Matric (Grade 12)/Any equivalent qualification.
- Tertiary qualification (Diploma or Degree) at minimum NQF Level 6 (NB. TVET graduates must have completed their Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and obtained their Diploma)
- Must be unemployed and available for the full internship duration.
- The applicant should be no more than 35 years of age.
- Must be a South African citizen and a permanent resident of Gauteng.
- Must not have participated in any previous Internship Programme.
- Candidates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds will be given preference.
- Candidates from designated groups, in terms of the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998 as amended, will be given preference.

Format) not older than six (6) months. - Applicants must clearly state the field of work/occupation they are applying for in the subject line of the email (NB. Failure to do so may result in the application being declined).
- Those individuals who are applying for an internship in more than one (1) sub-field of work/ occupation should submit a separate email for each application.
- It is in the applicant’s best interest to ensure that they comply with these instructions to ensure that their application is not disqualified on technical and compliance grounds.
