About the Company:

Renergen is a South African energy company focused on clean and alternative energy solutions, known especially for its Virginia Gas Project, the first in South Africa to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquid helium.

By joining Renergen, interns are exposed to:

  • Cutting-edge gas production processes
  • Real-world plant operations
  • Future-focused, sustainable energy technologies
  • A culture that invests in growing local engineering talent

Why This Internship Matters:

Many Chemical Engineering students struggle to complete their qualification because they lack plant-based practical training. This internship is designed to close that gap by offering:

  • Two full years of experience – longer than most 12-month internships
  • On-the-job training – no prior plant experience required
  • Rotations across production roles, giving a broad technical foundation
  • Priority for Free State residents, especially from Virginia and Welkom
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers and technicians

If you need WIL or in-service training to complete your N6 or S4, this programme is directly aligned with those requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

To qualify for the Renergen Production Internship Programme 2026, you must;-

  • Have N6 or S4 in Chemical Engineering, and:
    • TVET N6 candidates must need in-service training
    • University of Technology S4 candidates must need WIL placement
  • Have no prior plant experience (this is an entry-level, training-focused role)
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence (Code 08 or higher)
  • Be a Free State resident, preferably from Virginia or Welkom
  • Be available to start in February 2026
  • Have a valid South African ID

Roles You Will Rotate Through:

While the official advert does not list every duty, typical Production Intern responsibilities at a gas/energy plant include:

  • Monitoring production processes and plant performance
  • Collecting and analysing basic operating data
  • Assisting with daily plant operations
  • Supporting process optimisation initiatives
  • Participating in safety checks and inspections
  • Learning about equipment and production systems
  • Assisting engineering teams during maintenance or shutdowns
  • Performing routine checks and reporting deviations

This exposure sets you up for future roles in:

  • Operations and production
  • Process control and optimisation
  • Quality assurance
  • Safety and risk management
