South African Constitutional Law invites unemployed graduates to apply for Editorial Assistants Positions.
Location: South Africa
Job Type: Part-Time (12 months fixed contract)
Closing Date: 14 February 2025
Invitation for applications: Editorial Assistants 2025
The Editors of South African Constitutional Law invite applications for new Editorial Assistants to assist with the editing and production of the work in 2025.
The work is a new multi-author text published by Juta that will cover the full breadth of South African constitutional law, including the Bill of Rights and the structures of government and the state. It will ultimately consist of over 70 chapters by over 100 authors, to be published incrementally in tranches as an electronic and loose-leaf publication.
Role:
The role of Editorial Assistants is to assist with editing draft chapters, in particular to ensure compliance with house style and to double-check references, similar to the process of cite checking undertaken by
law clerks at the Constitutional Court.
In addition, Editorial Assistants may be asked to undertake legal research on areas of constitutional law to support the writing of chapters by Editors and other contributors. The Editorial Assistants will work closely with the Editors through the entire process, enabling them to gain experience in all aspects of the writing, editing and publishing of academic works. The demands of the role will fluctuate based on the editing and publishing schedule, but will generally not exceed 10 hours per month.
Benefits:
This is not an employment position, but a part-time support role for which Editorial Assistants will receive a modest stipend, complimentary access to Jutastat products and a complimentary copy of the entire work.
Editorial Assistants will also be recognised for their contribution in the work itself.
Appointment will be for one year, renewable at the election of the Editors.
Requirements:
Applicants are required to have the following;-
- LLB degree and a strong academic record;
- Excellent writing ability and attention to detail;
- Good time management and reliability;
- A strong interest in constitutional law;
- A postgraduate degree and any publications will be an advantage, but are not required;
- The Editors are committed to ensuring that the editorial team and authorship are broadly representative of the people of South Africa, and previously disadvantaged candidates are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply for South African Constitutional Law: Editorial Assistants
