The Wits Law Clinic (WLC) is a highly respected University Law Clinic based in South Africa and affiliated with the University of the Witwatersrand. It is renowned for its exceptional teaching, professional legal services, research, and partnerships with other organisations. Over the years, the WLC has handled numerous cases that have set legal precedents, with many of these being reported in the South African Law Reports.
The WLC, which is accredited by the Legal Practice Council of South Africa, offers practical vocational training to aspiring Legal Practitioners. Our Candidate Legal Practitioner programme offers you the opportunity to work in up to four specialised areas of law. Your work will give access to justice to marginalised communities in South Africa and provide you with valuable experience for your future legal career.
The WLC has a number of vacancies open for candidate legal practitioners to work within the various legal units. The appointments commence in January 2025.
Brief Description
The requirements for the available vacancies are as follows:
Essential Requirements:
- An LLB (or equivalent) degree.
- Strong Academic record.
- An interest in human rights law, social justice, and litigation.
- Good oral and written communication skills in English.
- Sense of initiative.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent research and legal drafting skills.
Desirable/Advantageous Requirements:
- Proficiency in another official South African language.
The successful candidate will assist various Supervising Attorneys with litigation and perform all duties required of a Candidate Legal Practitioner.
