Interwaste, a leader in waste management solutions across Southern Africa, is seeking a seasoned Environmental Compliance & Licensing Intern to join our team at the Germiston branch. Role Overview:
To assist the Environmental Compliance & Licensing team to manage projects for the development of new waste management facilities and to obtain authorizations for waste management facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
Environmental monitoring & review
- Manage baseline environmental monitoring.
- Source, compile and analyse environmental monitoring data.
- Appoint and manage specialist consultants where external assistance is required to implement environmental monitoring.
- Review reports submitted by consultants and provide comments to consultants
Project management input
- Provide inputs and compile information for environmental and other specialist studies related to projects in the division.
- Assist with providing data analysis, maps, figures etc.
- Assist with review of environmental and other specialist reports.
- Assist with review of legislative requirements and changes to legislation.
- Assist with drafting of letters and reports for stakeholder engagement and other purposes.
- Assist with administrative project management tasks.
ADHOC
- Any other reasonable adhoc duty as required or requested by management.
- It should be noted that individuals may need to expand their roles / scope to cover the workload of other employees in times of high workloads or individuals who may be absent from work. This is the sole discretion of management.
Desired Experience & Qualification:
- BSc Environmental Management qualification or similar
- Strong report/letter writing and review Skills
- Strong Organisational Skills
- Strong Communication Skills
- Using GIS or Google Earth to extract data and/or produce maps and figures
- Data capturing, analysis and reporting
- Awareness of environmental legislation
- Awareness of waste management legislation is advantageous
- Environmental authorisation process experience advantageous
- Valid driver’s license as travel may be a requirement
